JACOBSON - Anna (nee Bicoff)

Anna Jacobson (nee Bicoff), age 94 passed away peacefully at 7:20 am on Sunday April 3, 2016 at HighPointe on Michigan Skilled Nursing Facility.

Anna was born in Philadelphia PA., raised in Greenville South Carolina, and spent her married life in Philadelphia, before moving to Jerusalem, Israel for 23 years to be near her daughter Jane.  She is the daughter of the late Samuel Bicoff and the late Rececca (nee Kramer) Bicoff.

While raising her family in Philadelphia, she was active at Har Zion Temple and a national board member of ORT, (Organization for Rehabilitation Through Training, a Jewish group that builds vocational schools in developing countries.) She was a passionate reader, gardner, classical music and opera buff, seamstress, swimmer and world traveller.

After her divorce, she realized her dream of moving to Jerusalem and managed gift shops in the major hotels until she was 80  years old. From there she traveled widely throughout the Middle East.  Passionate about archaeology, she followed the progress and visited the major acient sites in Israel.

Anna spent the last 15 years living at the Essjay Apartments in Williamsville, where she got to know the entire staff at Wegmans nearby.  She enjoyed a disciplined routine of swimming and working out at the JCC and attended classes and activities at the Amherst Senior Center.  Her kitchen table was devoted to tailoring projects for friends and neighbors.  She supported WNED and was a member of Congregation Havurah.  Anna was fluent in both Yiddish and Hebrew.

She was a cheerful, enthusiastic person, always moving and ready for any adventure.  A wonderful cook, later in life she still made her famous 3 fruit marmalade and apple cake until she was taken ill suddenly in November.  Ever positive, she was an example of health and gratitude to those that knew her.

Anna is survived by her daughters Bobbi and Jane; her grandchildren, David and Scott Rosenbloom, great grandchildren Sarah and Kate, and ex-spouse Alfred Jacobson.

Expressions of sympathy may be directed to WNED FM in honor of  Anna
