Alice M. Hague, age 88 passed away suddenly at 6:24 am on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at Buffalo General Medical Center.

Alice was born on April 27, 1929 the daughter of the late Omar Robert and Mary (nee Werts) Myers.

A talented artist, Alice was a graduate of Cape Cod School of Art, studying under the renowned German-born abstract expressionist Hans Hofmann.  Alice worked as the first woman fashion illustrator at Wolf & Dessauer Department Store in Fort Wayne. She was a prolific watercolorist, known for her still-lifes and paintings of historic houses in Buffalo.

Alice led the renovation of her 1870 cottage-scale French Second Empire House on Linwood Avenue in Buffalo. Alice worked with local block club, "Linwood Preservation District and Friends", and hosted house tours. The renovation was featured in The Buffalo Evening News in 1984.

In the early 1970s, Alice co-founded, with Suzanne Ross and Karen Janszen, the art exhibition and performance space coffeehouse "PeopleArt/Bflo" in Buffalo. More recently she was a docent at the Burchfield Penney Art Center at Buffalo State College and a volunteer at the Frank Lloyd Wright- designed Darwin Martin House in Buffalo.

Alice was an activist with the Western New York Peace Center since 1971, with the "Summer '71" project which assessed local residents' opinion on the Vietnam War. She made news, when citing her accompanying infant daughter, she famously "refused to be arrested" during the 1971 May Day anti-war demonstration in Washington, D.C.

Alice was also a member of the College Club of Buffalo, and the "Wellsprings" of Church Women United of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Buffalo.

Devoted mother of Linda (Randy) Mullins of Ardmore, AL,  Kathy (William) Schwartz of Pittsburg, PA;  Marci (Allen) Dise of Albion, NY;  Marla (the late Roy) Biller of Buffalo, NY;  David (Jennifer) Rix of Arlington, WA;  Kimberly Hague of Buffalo, NY  and Alyson Hague of Leverett, MA.  Dearest grandmother of 10 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Fond sister of Sally (the late Russell) Johnson. Alice is also survived by nieces, nephews and many devoted friends.

Dear John, I was sorry to hear of Alice's recent passing. I was unaware of her many accomplishments and talents, which were mentioned in her obituary. I extend my condolences to you and your family. Joe Hoffman
